About ‘Tectonic’ Tammy…

Me on my first overnight hike, to Mueller Hut in Aoraki National Park. Feeling excited but definitely weighed down by an over-packed backpack..

Hi there! My name is Tamasin. I’m a 27 year old Brit, who now feels at home in Queenstown, New Zealand.

As a child, I was bullied. My best friends have always been my amazing, loving family. Through all of my teenage years, I had a long string of boyfriends and hardly had any time to fall in love with myself.

In my early twenties I started to feel stagnant. I started to set my eye on the rest of the world and I will never forget how someone said: ‘Don’t you want to wait until you have a boyfriend to go traveling?’

If I had not quit my job and gone, I could have still been waiting, and I wouldn’t have met the amazing woman I am proud to be today.

On my first solo trip, I went as cushy as possible. A Topdeck tour to the Western side of North America and the Canadian Rockies for a mere month. I had an absolute blast, but was keen to go home when the trip was done.

I thought I must be ‘homesick’, but now I realise I was just frustrated at not being in control of my holiday, and who I was spending it with. Slowly my trips got a bit longer and a bit more autonomous. I gained self-confidence, extravertedness, independence, organisational skills and laid-backness. I became much more content and, dare I say it? I found myself.

Eventually, I found myself in the South Island of New Zealand for 2 weeks at the end of a month in Australia. I felt like I had fallen in love with a place, and moving there was the only answer.

hawea Seeing Lake Hawea for the first time was unbelievable.

tekapo The same went for Lake Tekapo…

wanaka…and Wanaka, even just from little ol’ Mount Iron.

18 months later, I have found a dreamy job as a Graphic Designer for a Winery in Central Otago, and I spend my evenings and weekends rock-climbing, pole-dancing, socialising, dating, and hiking in some of the most beautiful places in the world. How does that happen?! It happens when you follow your heart and trust in the universe. That’s what I think, anyway. Maybe there was also some luck, or celestial power involved, but I wont go into that conversation.
